| Introduction | Young Single Mothers Group (YSMEG) , Founded in September 2008, is a self help group based in Kibera Slums. Kibera has an average population of about 250,000 to 1 million family units; with each family comprising an average 4-7 member. Kibera is characterized by poor housing & infrastructure, high rate of illiteracy, large uncontrolled populations amid dwindling and or non-existent resources; factors which have led to unemployment and insecurity. These factors and many more have encouraged young women and the youth to engage in negative anti-social activities such as: - prostitution, drug & substance abuse, rape, stealing & mugging which have made Kibera a less desirable place to live in. |
