Favorite Books When I was little I used to get so lost in whatever novel I was reading that when I finished, I'd turn back to page 1 and start again. now that I read a little more critically, books don't suck me in like that as often. So here's an incomplete list of books I've read in the past few years that have sucked me in. Not all of them are perfect, but they all created a world, or a few characters, or a story that I continued to think about long after I finished reading: The Plot Against America by Philip Roth, The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay by Michael Chabon, Summerland by Michael Chabon, On Beauty by Zadie Smith, Prep by Curtis Sittenfeld, everything I've read by Ann Patchett (Bel Canto, Truth & Beauty, The Patron Saint of Liars, The Magician's Assistant), Autobiography of a Face by Lucy Grealy, Slow River by Nicola Griffith, The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold

Your people want to make a statue in your honor. What will it be made out of and what victory will it commemorate?

my statue will be made of sand. once the wind blows it down, it will commemmorate the victory of nature over anything man-made.
