About me

Introduction Miguel Serrano has practiced the martial arts for over 30 years. His first teacher was his father José, who taught him how to punch before he could walk. He holds the rank of 6th degree black belt in Okinawa Goju-Ryu Karate Do and 5th Dan in Matayoshi Kobudo (Ancient Weapons). He graduated from the Universidad Interamericana de Puerto Rico with a degree in Psychology. Upon graduation he attended the United States Army Paratrooper Course (Airborne), then was commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Air Force where he served as a Missile Combat Crew Commander (Launch Control Officer). In 1998 Serrano Sensei was promoted to the rank of 6th Degree Black Belt and awarded the Title of Renshi in Okinawa, Japan by Kinei Nakasone. Yoshiaki Gakiya and Yasushi Matayoshi also awarded him the rank of Godan in Matayoshi Kobudo. Serrano Sensei is on the Technical Committee for the USA National Karate Do Federation. The USA-NKF is the National Governing Body for Karate in the United States, and member of the World Karate-Do Federation and the United States Olympic Committee. He is a Pan American level official and continues to teach the arts of Karate and Kobudo.
