| Introduction | Republican women's clubs have existed for over 100 years. They were originally inspired by the Republican Platform of 1872, which said: "The Republican Party is mindful of it's obligation to the loyal women of America for their noble devotion to the cause of Freedom." With that, Republican's women's clubs were off and running. As early as 1924, a number of Republican clubs had been formed in West Virginia. These clubs functioned as a State Federation until the fall of 1939 when West Virginia was voted to join the National Federation. Wood County's first recorded group known as the Young Women's Republican Club had as it's President, Mrs. Lois C. Rogers in 1933. The name changed to Republican Women's Service League in 1956 and since 2005 has been known as the Wood County Republican Women (WCRW). |
