| Introduction | The Armoury was contemporary art gallery located in Milwaukee's historic Fortress building. Our objective was to promote emerging and semi-established artists who were creating challenging work in a variety of media. | Interests | The Armoury was established in January 2008 by Cassandra Smith and Jessica Steeber, and was located inside Milwaukee's historic "Fortress" building just north of downtown. "The Armoury" was inspired by The Armoury at the Moscow Kremlin, previously a weapons factory, the Armoury now houses the Soviet national treasures - and remains one of the most inspiring places from the six months. The gallery promoted upcoming and semi-established local and national artists creating dynamic, challenging work in a variety of media. The gallery also encouraged installation work, aiming to create a unique dialogue between the art, the artist, the gallery and the viewer. |
