| Introduction | In life, I am married to Russ Dynes and we have a son, Oliver, who is 24 years old. We fell in love in the late 70s in part because we had both traveled and lived overseas. By career, I am a social worker who spent the first 12 years as a family systems therapist in various programs involving youth, court, military, education, disabilities, drug and alcohol, crises, and mental health. In the late 80s I entered the employee assistance (EAP) field working with all levels of employees around stress, relationships, and change. In the mid 90s I founded my own company, WorkCare, providing EAP, organizational development, training, and supervisory coaching. Over time, I gravitated toward family businesses. In 2001, I earned a certificate as a Family Business Advisor through the Family Firm Institute. I re- entered graduate school to further develop business skills in order to ask difficult questions about the family business and to work effectively with family business advisors. My goal after graduate school is to teach family business courses in graduate schools of businesses and to gradually increase my family business expertise internationally. |
| Interests | International travel, going to musical concerts, reading, hiking in woods, family businesses |
| Favorite movies | Mindwalk is a "dialogue" movie of a conversation between a quantum physicist, a failed U.S. presidential primary candidate and an ex-patriate American poet. As they talk, they visit a medieval castle built during the age of reason. The dialogue is reflected in the various parts of the castle from the clock tower, torture chamber to the cathedral. I find it captivating in its way that quantum physics and how three persons interconnect around their values and ethics. |
| Favorite music | I love all kinds, espcially international music. For me, music is universal and moves me more than traditional religion. Most recent concert was listening to listening to Coleman Barks recite Rumi's poetry while a cello and tabula played in the background, followed by a Turkish Whirling Dervish performance. My newest CD is a jug band, Carolina Chocolate Chips, who are attempting to emulate music by African slaves during the early 1800s. |
| Favorite books | I can't think of a favorite book. I have too many, partially unread or ready-to-read when time slows. My most recent favorite book is "Flawless Consulting". |
