| Introduction | I began quilting in 1984 by doing all the traditional techniques by hand and began teaching from home in 1988. I have no formal art training, but learnt by trial and error! I design my own quilts and teaching material since 1989. I teach at National Quilt Festival level since 1994. I served as Chairlady 1998 – 2000 of the Dias Quilters’ Guild in Port Elizabeth, President of the South African Quilters’ Guild 2002 – 2004 and Chairlady of both the 2006 & 2017 National Quilt Festivals in Port Elizabeth. The most notable awards won at Festivals in SA since 1994, are Best Machine Workmanship and Best on Show – Art Quilts (2011 National Quilt Festival, Stellenbosch) and Best Use of Colour at the 2015 National Quilt Festival, KZN. I was awarded Master Class status by the South African Quilters’ Guild and was the 2017 recipient of the Pro Dedicate Award, a service award “in recognition of dedication to the promotion of the art of quiltmaking in South Africa”. I continue to teach creative machine stitching techniques. I have this passion for texture and stitching which I now incorporate in art quilts. I also paint fabric under the brush rags label since 2001. |
