Do you believe that forks are evolved from spoons?
If forks WERE evolved from spoons I would say it is bad mutation and one destined to failure if it were to be asked to be a replacement. While you may cut with the edge of a spoon and gather up all the peas on your plate in easy scoops with a spoon, it will never be replaced by a stabbing utensil that is useless as a cutting tool and very poor at slurping your soup with.
