| Introduction | This blog is created in an effort to establish a scholarship in my father's name...here's a bit about me. I began paddling and racing marathon canoes in 1976 while growing up in New Iberia, Louisiana. By 1982 I was employed with the Nantahala Outdoor Center (NOC) based in Bryson City, North Carolina. I worked with NOC teaching kayaking/canoeing, guiding and leading trips to Chile, Costa Rica, Mexico and Vietnam. I’ve recorded first descents in the U.S., Vietnam and Chile as well as enjoyed competing in various downriver, slalom and free-style events in the U.S. In 2000, I began teaching for Swain County Schools. I have gladly served the school system as after-school coordinator, 5th grade teacher and currently enjoy my role as an elementary physical education teacher. I am also supported in this endeavor by my wife, Susan, and my two children, Rye and Callie. |
