| Introduction | I am a driving examiner for Metroline Travel; we have a number of bus garages around London operating bus routes on behalf of TFL. I have been invited to Tanzania in East Africa to work along side Transaid, a UK based charity. Transaid have been working in Africa for some time, helping to improve road safety. In Tanzania, tens of thousands of people die each year on the roads and the main reason is a lack of driver training. In 1982 my sister Julie was a passenger in a car, along with the driver and another passenger they were all killed in a car crash on the A1 between Apex Corner and Stirling Corner, she was only 17, so I sadly, have first hand experience of the heart break and pain that follows when losing a loved one in such tragic circumstances. My role in Tanzania will be training drivers to become, not only bus driving instructors, but to up skill them to become trainers of trainers. Putting the experience I have gained over the past 23 years in the bus industry, into such a worth while project, is something I am proud to be involved with. So I hope that, through my blog, you will follow me on my journey which begins in November. |
