IntroductionAP Students: Please respond to each of the "Farewell to Arms" passages IN CHRONOLOGICAL ORDER. E.g., start with chapter 1, proceed to chapter 10, etc. You will simply need to click on "comment"; then type in your name in the box marked "name/URL" on the bottom right-hand side of the page. Post your comment in the box provided and click on "publish your comment." That's all there is to it. Look for elements that you're familiar with, such as irony, paradox, use of diction, and ways that Hemingway achieves cadence (rhythm) through his unique sentence structure. You may also be interested in exploring tone and theme. The accompanying pictures may provide you with fodder for thought, as well, and you may wish to discuss their relevance (or lack thereof) to the quote. Remember, too, that you can comment on any of your classmates' posts in addition to the original quote; in fact, you are encouraged to do so. Simply make clear whose comment you're referring to in your own posting. REMEMBER THAT ALL CLASS MEMEBERS SHOULD HAVE RESPONDED TO THESE PASSAGES BY THE TIME WE COME BACK TO SCHOOL. THIS WILL CONSTITUTE A LARGE PORTION OF YOUR SUMMER READING GRADE. Enjoy! Mrs. G
