Introduction I figured out, pretty quickly, that shoes on a river trip equaled misery. They got wet and stayed wet. like wearing a soggy diaper on your feet. It felt like I was constantly taking them off to remove unwanted sand and rock. So…I took an old pair of white and blue Nike high top basketball shoes, left the toe and the top laces, and cut away what was in the middle. There I had it. An open shoe for river trips. This must have been the late 80's. I didn't know about Teva's and Chaco wasn't around yet. I was just a boy then and in some ways, nothing has changed.
