Introduction I grew up in Conowingo, a small town in northeastern Maryland, spending the first 21 years of my life there, also completing my B.S. in biochemistry at the University of Delaware in 2003. Since 2003, I have been a medical student at the University of Virginia School of Medicine in Charlottesville, VA. In my abundant free time, I referee high school, youth and adult soccer. I've also had the great privilege of spending parts of 3 summers in Guinea-Bissau, Senegal, and Zambia as a volunteer missionary through the International Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention. I'll now be taking a year between the third and fourth years of medical school to participate in the National Institute of Health Fogarty International Center/Ellison Medical Foundation Overseas Fellowship in Global Health and Clinical Research (hereafter refered to as the Fogarty Fellowship). I will live and work in Fortaleza, Brazil for the next year before returning to Charlottesville to complete my M.D. degree next year.
