| Introduction | I understood the importance of making political decisions very early. I believe that all Americans have the ability to influence their government in many ways, even outside of voting. I am Brazilian, but I live in Austin as a permanent resident. My status in the US does not allow me to vote. The political impact I can make here may be small, but I know I can still influence my community through my personal views and actions. Education, the environment, animal rights, and public health are issues that I care very much about. I believe that great education leads to a better understanding of the world and allows people to become productive members of society. The environment is essential to our existence on the planet, and health is what keeps us going. My political ideology leans to the left; however, I am not a radical. I am taking Texas Government at Austin Community College as a requirement to obtain a B.A. in Psychology; nevertheless, I do look at this as a vital learning experience. I expect to learn the basic fundamentals of the Texas political process from this class, so I can really participate in the politics of this community and state. |
