| Introduction | It was sometime in 2013 when Eddy Tabone approached me with the idea of an 80's dance band. Eddy was the front man for Route 66 playing classic rock party music. He had brought me in on keys a year earlier. We were sitting at a high-top bar table enjoying beers and Eddy started. His baritone voice getting louder, rising to falsetto, his drummer-sized hands waving at the air, Eddy described the "Most Fabulous Nerds" or "Spazmania" or "Geekorama": nerds playing 80's party music. He looked at me to gauge my response. "80's music? Are you kidding me? I'm a keyboard player. I'm in!" With that began the amazing ride called "Nerds Gone Wild in WNY." Eddy and I decided on my costume. He showed me his prospective song lists, written in marker on torn-out pieces of legal pad. We met with a few musicians, starting with Shane, then a few more, then kicked the whole thing off; rehearsing at the old 'Dockside' in North Tonawanda. NGW is now Ed, Eddy, Shane, John and me. Our first show was over 5 years ago. I’m grateful for each one. |
