About me

Location New York, New York, United States
Introduction Mentor Connection is an advanced learning experience for students who seek academic challenge and who are ready to explore their goals for the future. Over the course of the year, students participate in didactic sessions where they learn about public health issues affecting minorities and underserved communities. Speakers from all areas of the healthcare field are invited to share their experience and knowledge with the students. Another core component of Mentor Connection entails an externship placement aimed to foster student interests. Placed at a variety of healthcare facilities and working under the guidance of a mentor, students explore possible careers, developing professional experience that will allow them to succeed in future endeavors. The goal is to create a long-term relationship between the mentor and protégé that will last well beyond the school year. The Mentor Connection Program is run by the Manhattan-Staten Island Area Health Education Center (AHEC), an organization committed to encouraging students to enter the health field.
Interests public health, health care, medical professions, diversity, higher education, medical school, underserved communities.
