My blogs
| Introduction | It was 1965 when my dad and I drove from Detroit to Watkins Glen for the United States Grand Prix for my first race. Jimmy Clark, who had won the Indy 500 earlier in the year and was my favorite driver, dropped out early and it was a driver I had never heard of – Jochen Rindt – who made it a memorable day as he charged through the field on a wet track. I was hooked. My interest in auto racing blended well with an interest in writing. A journalism degree led to a job where auto racing was one of the sports I covered. To help make ends meet, I worked at a local short track. From there I moved into automotive public relations where I worked for Ford, Honda and Toyota during a 35 year career intertwined with motorsports at all three companies. I’ve had an opportunity to visit most major tracks in America and some not so major. From Indianapolis and Daytona, to Georgia’s Dixie Speedway and Michigan’s Flat Rock Raceway, I’ve always been interested in the history and the stories behind the races and the drivers. Moving into semi-retirement provides me with the time to do two of the things I enjoy most, writing and following racing. |
