| Introduction | I am an aspiring screenwriter. I am completely obsessed with achieving my goal - my whole life revolves around drawing inspiration from movies, music, books, daydreams, dreams, daily life experience and snippets of news stories and coming up with my own stories. Having done the hard work, living as a virtual recluse for the last 6 years while I worked on my craft, I have recently moved to Sydney to follow my dream, step by step, starting by trying to get a column up and running in a local newspaper like I had where I am from, getting some kind of life happening - I haven't had time for a relationship nor found anyone who related to or adjusted around what my priorities are. It is everything to me - I actually cannot conceive of a life where I don't get to communicate my ideas and stories to a mass audience. |
| Interests | My main interest in life is the same as my ambition - read below. I enjoy music as much as I enjoy film but don't have the passion to make it my life. I am a classically trained pianist and have competed successfully in major piano competitions. I'm also wanting to speak French fluently - I know enough to get by. I am also interested in travel (I would like to go to Japan, China and France and to explore more of Britain, which I've only seen briefly), architecture, wildlife, politics and some sport - I really enjoy cycling, tennis and adventure sports. I want to set up a website for myself in then near future - when I find the time and can get someone to help me with it! |
| Favorite movies | I could not possibly list all the movies that inspire me. I do really like Network and Chinatown - I guess I like damning portrayals of human nature and social pressures. I am a huge fan of the entire career of Catherine Deneuve and Isabelle Huppert. My favourite films are ones that make you feel as though you have really gone on a journey and entered into another world (I don't necessarily mean fantasy world - I mean you've really got a sense of having walked in someone else's shoes) I can't remember the last time I felt that after watching a movie. I like really atmospheric films and original storylines like Taxi Driver, The Hunger and The Wickerman. In general, the best American films were made in the 60s and 70s and the most consistently good films are French. Favourite directors include Fellini, Truffaut, Bergman, Campion and Lynch. A film that had a huge impact on me when I was younger was Out of Africa - I do like an epic. I also really like a good comedy, like Tootsie. I'm not always as old school as you would think from this. I also cannot get enough of 60s TV, especially secret agent shows like The Avengers, and US comedy then. |
| Favorite music | The Jam, Blondie, Siouxsie, Eurythmics, Pretenders, New Order, some B-52s, Kraftwerk, The Beloved, some Pet Shop Boys, Cocteau Twins, St Etienne, Smashmouth, Primitives, Sundays, Lush, some Pulp, Echo and the Bunnymen, early Cure, Travis, Muse, Coldplay, Dido, Bowie, Abba |
| Favorite books | I don't really have a favourite book. Some of the best books I've read in the last 12 months are The Danish Girl and The Cloud Sketcher which would both make amazing films. There is a very obscure and very wonderful book called Waking Slow. |
