| Introduction | I am one of eight adult children from a British Isles background, immigrants that came mostly to Canada, and then pioneered in the Upper Midwest. There may be a smattering of Seneca Indian blood in us. I grew up on a small family farm in Crystal Township. My brother, Doug, that brilliant, bachelor, Irish farmer and historian, is the only one still there. My dad, that conservative hippie imbued with elan vital, lived what I am trying to urge the young to do: maverize, maverize. My mom, that matriarch who worked, raised kids, read constantly and was a political buff, taught me to live life with one's heart, not just one's head. I hope you enjoy what you read.
