| Introduction | I'm a photographer and digital artist. Musicians in performance are my favorite subjects. Capturing them in the moment of unselfconscious creativity is my goal. I often find my images in surprising places on the web. It's nice to see them chosen for another user's purpose, but often I haven't granted permission, been compensated or even credited. I decided to claim them publicly. So I started "Hey, I Took That". One of my driving passions in photography is to show people what I saw. That's one reason attribution is important to me. Vanity? Maybe. Ego? Probably. Brand and ownership? Definitely. We photographers own the rights to our work. It's called copyright. And we need to protect it. Some send unauthorized users a bill for two or three times standard usage fees. Others threaten litigation. I've decided, in most cases, to use this blog to claim my work and explain my position. Photographers rely on their images for their livelihood. They are the products of their efforts. They represent their brand as professionals and artists. This blog is created out of respect, and to promote respect, for all photographers, and the images they create. |
