| Introduction | In addition to seldom-visited Vitiligo blog, I'm starting a new blog based on the book Lame Deer, Seeker of Visions, a co-operative book with John (Fire) Lame Deer and Richard Erdoes. It was first published in paperback in 1994 by Washington Square Press. Lame Deer doesn't carry the fame and oft'quoted wisdom of Black Elk or Chief Joseph, he is more modern, a recognizable contemporary voice of the pot-smoking rebel of the nineteen sixties -- with an edge. The American Indian edge. In this blog, I am writing directly from the book, bit by bit, and let Lame Deer's character and wisdom find the eyes and ears of those who thirst for it. |
| Interests | After more than three decades in a quirky tiny town in the high desert, I moved to an old, sun-drenched house a few miles east. My passion for saving dilapidated cabins is still strong, and for the creative life, personal and professional. Small-scale antique furniture, old paintings and photographs; mountains and rivers; being way out in the wild with my beloved; good simple food; all animals; friends of every color and persuasion; books; some music; the starry nights and burnt-gold dawns; commitment to healing myself; to taking responsibility for my life in every way; caring for who and what is in my life; love. |
| Favorite movies | A documentary on the life of Proust. More to come. (Casablanca, of course!) |
| Favorite music | American Indian drums and chant; Chopin; Carlos Santana; the soundtrack of Schindler's List. The sounds of silence. |
| Favorite books | Cry of the Panther, James P. McMullen. Nothing like it in the world. An ex-Vietnam vet story - sure, we've read or heard of them - but this is another planet, with a purpose. Some of the most exquisite writing ever. That this man exists! |
