Introduction People thru-hike the Appalachian Trail for a number of reasons - for example, to conquer a physically-daunting task, to find themselves, to hide from the recession, to find missing politicians, etc. For Kate, Emily, and Brandon, the thru-hike is seen not only as an opportunity to be mentally and physically challenged, but also as a way to meet new people and see new places. The Appalachian Trail is a perfect environment for such an adventure because it offers not only a beautiful landscape, but also a platform for which people of different cultures and backgrounds can come together and share in a truly unique experience. Through this blog, Kate, Emily, and Brandon will provide their followers with a personalized account of their five-month adventure on the Appalachian Trail as well as an insider’s view of what it takes to finish the entire 2178.3 mile trek.
