About me

Gender Male
Location Sèvres, France
Introduction Born in the Bahamas and educated in an English public school and university, I moved to France when I left university and have lived here ever since. After qualifying in 1976, I was a self-employed conference interpreter for 40 years, working for French companies and government departments, European trade associations and international organisations, as well as teaching in the French university system. I became French by naturalisation in 1994, making me a Frenchman with an English mother tongue! Without revealing any secrets (interpreters are bound to observe strict confidentiality, even in retirement) my aim, in this blog is to comment on the politics, economy, social and cultural life of France, blended in with my personal experiences of living and working for the past 45 years in this always endearing but often infuriating country!
