| Introduction | Peter Scherr is the youngest of four children. As a child he first experienced ceramics as a medium by forming bricks from clay he had dug and then fired on the outdoor grill. In his upbringing he participated in the transformation of materials-such as cutting down trees to make heating fuel and burning yard waste in bonfires. Peter enrolled in his first ceramics class as a senior in High School and thereafter was “hooked”. Following three years of college at various locales, he was taken on as an assistant by ceramic artist, Jun Kaneko. For eighteen months he mixed clay and glazes, fabricated work, and fired kilns. Following this life-altering experience, he re-enrolled and completed his undergraduate degree in Fine Art from the University of Nebraska. |
