| Introduction | After many years in the publishing industry, I decided to re-connect with my love of teaching and took a job as a program director at a community college that retrained dislocated workers for jobs in computerized office technology. It was a wonderful blend of technology and education that was just a perfect fit for me and working with adult students was a true joy. That job began my career in higher education which has spanned almost 20 years and four institutions, working primarily in faculty development and support. The more I worked on developing training programs and materials the more I realized that I needed to get a better understanding of how people learned as well as how to create materials that addressed those different learning styles. That realization resulted in my completing the Master’s in Instructional Design at UMass Boston (one of the few programs of its kind then) and then finally with a Ph.D. in Instructional Design with a specialization in online learning from Capella University in Minnesota. It’s been an exciting and challenging time for me and a journey that I feel will continue to unfold as we discover more about learning pathways. |
