Why does the taste of pennies remind you of losing a tooth?
Unless one has no blood (which would instantly, if not very quickly render them dead), everybody has felt the Hoover Dam of blood break loose when they lose a tooth. They taste the blood in their mouth, and specifically the sometimes high iron content in the blood, making everybody taste that metallic tang.
