Introduction Father of two children, living on southside of Glasgow for the past 12 years. Born Bellshill and attended school in Cleland, Uddingston and Ayr. Studied law to postgraduate level at the University of Dundee. Previously employed in retail, healthcare, IT training and as a Labour Party organiser before working as researcher for a Labour MP and MSP, I also ran winning campaigns as election agent in Glasgow Govan and Glasgow Central. First elected in 2003 to represent Pollokshaws and Shawlands, I was re-elected in 2007 for Newlands/Auldburn ward and appointed City Treasurer responsible for the council's £2.5billion budget. From 2009 to 2010, I led service reform across Glasgow City Council. In April 2010 elected convener of Strathclyde Police Authority, responsible for the budget and scrutiny of policing across almost half of Scotland. Since 2006 also convener of South West Glasgow Community Health & Care Partnership bringing together local primary health and social care services.
