About me

Introduction An immunology researcher, currently in the final year of a PhD in viral immunology. I have studied the telomere length in human T cells. Telomeres are the molecular clock so to speak that all human cells use to establish a barrier to unlimited divisions, a cancer barrier to be exact. Telomeres shorten with each division in all human cells, even stem cells unless very specific mechanisms are in place. The mechanisms are likely easily disrupted during the transition to oncogenesis (tumor formation) such that only in the rarest of instances can a cell (stem cell or somatic cell) make the transition to immortality that defines a cancer cell. But enough of that.. read in the blog!
