Introduction Jazz trumpeter Thomas Heflin is a freelance jazz trumpeter and a recording artist for Blue Canoe Records. He has as been featured or mentioned in a variety of publications including Jazz Magazine, The Pittsburgh Tribune Review and The International Trumpet Guild Journal. In addition to placing second in the 2005 Carmine Caruso International Jazz Trumpet Solo Competition, he has performed and recorded with the likes of James Williams, Donald Brown, Eric Revis, Adonis Rose, and Neal Caine. Thomas Heflin is a graduate of the University of Tennessee, where he studied with jazz education pioneer, Jerry Coker. He recieved his masters degree from the internationally renowned jazz department at William Paterson University and his doctorate in Music Performance (Jazz Emphasis) from the University of Texas, Austin. He currently lives and performs in New York City where he works as Program Manager and serves on the jazz faculty at the Manhattan School of Music Precollege Division. He currently serves as Assistant Professor of Jazz at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton, GA. He is a co-author of the book "Understanding Music: Past and Present."
