Introduction | Raised on a cotton farm in rural Mississippi, Ann dreamed of the day she’d sing gospel music all over the world. Barely out of high school, she began to realize her dream by securing a position with the legendary Speer Family. Ann later married the man of her dreams and co-founded The Downings, a group that helped shape the face of Gospel music we enjoy today. She's gratefully received the industry’s highest honor—the Dove Award—for Female Vocalist. Ann's contributions to Gospel Music have garnered her induction into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame. Celebrating over 50 years in the field, Ann has been lauded with various awards and accolades, however, she’s quick to tell you that she has experienced plenty of life's "tough stuff". Fading success? She’s been there. Crumbling marriage and financial ruin? She’s been there. Lost a spouse or experienced a devastating trauma in your family? Yes, she's been there, too. Through faith in the healing and restorative powers of God, Ann has found that laughing comes naturally again and wants to encourage us all to learn to make the journey stride for stride. Her mantra is, "Smile! Life is serious enough." |
