| Introduction | S.Kalidas has been an active participant and commentator on the Indian arts scene for over four decades. Son of the late artist and thinker J. Swaminathan, Kalidas witnessed the growth of Indian modernism from close quarters, while he simultaneously trained in Hindustani classical music formally under some of its greatest masters including Pandit Mallikarjun Mansur and Ustad Amjad Ali Khan. He has worked as a writer and senior editor with a number of leading national newspapers and magazines including The Times of India and India Today. A polyglot, besides English Kalidas can read, write and speak in Hindi, Urdu, Bengali and Tamil. |
