Introduction | The English Access Microscholarship Program is a joint program of the United States Embassy and CEVAZ to make the study of English more accessible to adolescents from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. While working on their language skills the participants become familiar with aspects of US culture and thus develop a deeper understanding of current issues in North American society. A greater sensitivity to cultural differences, coupled with the acquired language skills, will enable the participants to take advantage of opportunities that had previously been unavailable to them. The US Embassy and the Centro Venezolano Americano del Zulia, CEVAZ, trust the ability of our youth to become qualified bilingual professionals who can help expand the bilingual workforce and prepare themselves to assume responsibilities in international enterprises both in Venezuela and abroad. Moreover, we expect that the participants’ experience will set a positive precedent within their community. |
