Introduction Tynemouth World War One Commemoration Project A community heritage project based on the wartime experiences of a tightly-knit riverside community is producing a ground breaking back story to WW1. Since early 2011 a group of more than 50 volunteers based at the town's Linskill Centre have been working to create a biography, on a database, including photographs and images from original documents for each of the more than 1,700 casualties of the Great War from within the former Borough of Tynemouth who were included on a Roll of Honour published in 1923. The aim is to load it to the web in spring 2014. The old Borough of Tynemouth included the significant ship repairing and conversion town of North Shields before being swallowed up into what is now North Tyneside, during local government reorganisation in 1974.
