|Occupation||Musician and Artist|
|Location||London, United Kingdom|
|Introduction||Music at http://helenmccookerybook.bandcamp.com Art at mccookerybook.tumblr.com I can't decide what I want to be. I thought I was an illustrator and then I turned into a musician by accident. Along the way I've wanted to be a fireman and HGV driver and it's getting too late now! I can't stop writing songs, and if I did, I'd not be able to stop drawing pictures. I wish I could play piano, trumpet and accordion. I always used to long for long blonde hair until I dyed my hair blonde and I looked disgusting. I nearly bought a motorbike (BSA Bantam), but spent the money on a bass amplifier instead and joined Joby and the Hooligans in 1977. I can't resist going into charity shops and buying clothes which I often take back the next day. I wrote a book called 'The Lost Women of Rock Music: female musicians of the punk era', under the name Helen Reddington, which is available from Amazon in paperback (and your local library) I eat Magnum Classics all summer long, and mini-poppadums all winter. In spring and autumn, I don't eat anything.|
|Interests||Climbing trees, sitting on beaches in winter, digging holes, ice skating (badly), listening to pirate radio stations, dreaming up ideas, doing stupid things, driving around Britain, drawing pictures|
|Favorite Movies||La Belle et la Bete, Anita and Me, American Graffiti, Time Bandits, Spinal Tap, Carry On Cabby, Les Parapluies de Cherbourg|
|Favorite Music||Particular Northern Soul and Disco tracks especially #1 Deejay which nobody has heard of. Early lovers' rock, lots of Brazilian stuff, early blues, ridiculously happy psychedelia (e.g.Rotary Connection), some Johnny Cash, bands before they get famous. And I love live music!|
|Favorite Books||To Kill a Mockingbird, My Family and Other Animals, old-fashioned childrens books, awful crime novels, gothic novels and political biographies (aren't they the same thing?)|
