Introduction	Tozan is a "dharma name." in a language fraught with homonyms. It can mean "going on foot" - "on a hillside" - "pilgrimage" - "mountaineering." It is also the Japanese name for Tung-Shan Liang-Shieh, the Chinese master who, as founding patriarch of the Soto lineage, formulated the Five Degrees of Enlightenment.
