Introduction When I'm not making art with middle school students, I can be found on soccer field sidelines, mountain tops, next to a lake, or bobbing on the ocean in a sailboat with my husband and four kids. I also enjoy sewing clothing and quilts, making jewelry, and decorating cakes. In college I studied a variety of mediums but love to watercolor, take photographs, and make thrown and hand formed pottery. A Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, has enabled me to produce movies, albums, clothing lines, books, and many cultural artifacts in a former lifetime as the Retail Manager at the Polynesian Cultural Center in Hawaii. I enjoy sharing what I have learned in the "real world" with my middle school students.
Interests I love to travel and see new places. I incorporate cultural myths, artifacts, and techniques into my curriculum to broaden the experience of my students. With units about Gyotaku Japanese Fish, Mexican Alebrijes, Islamic Tiles, and Hawaiian Ipus, students can learn about different cultures as part of the creative process. If you peek through the art room window at just the right moment you might see a student twirling in a Mexican dancing costume, eating with chopsticks or dancing with a dragon before they get started with the art project of the day.
