| Introduction | I have an MSc Natural Hazards and GIS and a BSc (Hons) Geography with Natural Hazards. Natural hazards, in particular volcanoes are my passion. I have a wealth of academic background and professional experience in natural hazards, their analysis and management. My professional and voluntary background has enabled me to gain a wide range of knowledge and experience ranging from community engagement, flood monitoring, warning, preparedness and responding, strategic and tactical level plans and manuals, major incident plans, multi-agency exercises, to training and exercising Category 1 incident responders. I believe increasing knowledge and raising awareness about natural hazards is essential in a rapidly developing world where more and more of the world’s population are at risk. With increasing vulnerability and risk, understanding, preparedness and awareness is crucial. Education is therefore important, which is why I write this blog. Along with my personal experience and views, hazard and disaster updates and articles, I aim to share useful links, resources, news and published articles. |
