IntroductionThis blog is for anyone who shares my passion for parenting AND for the potential of our American public schools. I have spent the last twenty years working in education while also formally studying the relationship between American democracy and public schooling. Last fall when my older daughter transitioned to kindergarten and struggled to find her footing, I found myself having to look anew at my assumptions about what to expect from the public schools. This blog is my opportunity to reconcile the tension I feel between my grandest aspirations for my own children and my extravagant hopes for what the public schools can do for all of our children.
