| Introduction | This is my story, about an American mom spending her summer in Sydney. By which I mean an American summer, June-July-August, which is winter for Australia. Luckily it never gets icy cold like I’m used to in the Northeast, but it is sweater and wind-shielding coat weather. My husband’s work brought us down here. It had already been a year of chaotic changes for our family, so I initially welcomed the news with the eagerness you feel when told you’re going to need some major dental surgery. But I eventually warmed up to the idea, even though it wasn’t going to be warm. And so here we are, me, my husband, and my three- and five-year-old, learning Australia-speak, petting kangaroos, and trying to find Goldfish® in the land down under... |
