About me

Introduction	My memoir, TO HAVE NOT, is what I consider to be my first real book, though I've written books on Marilyn Monroe and David Letterman on assignment for a young-adult biographies series. I've also written hundreds of articles, essays, and book reviews for magazines like Good Housekeeping, Body+Soul, Whole Living, Utne Reader, and The Sun. Then there's my fiction, with short stories and very short stories (aka flash fiction) appearing in Tin House, Glimmer Train, Fiction, New World Writing, Superstition Review, and more. If I wanted to brag, I'd mention my numerous awards, including two Pushcart Prize Honorable Mentions. But I'd rather tell you about my hobbies, which are surfing and speaking Spanish. Born and raised in San Francisco, I spent twenty-something years on the East Coast, and am now settled back in Northern California.
