| Introduction | My husband and I have been married for 5 years. We met at Duke University. I am a nurse anesthetist (CRNA) and Gene is a medical simulation coordinator at Duke and a founding board member of the Rubicon Foundation. Andrew is our first child and was born October 1, 2009 weighing 9 pounds 4 ounces. He was diagnosed with a left sided diaphragmatic hernia with stomach and intestines up in his chest during a routine 17 week ultrasound. Within hours after birth, Andrew was also diagnosed with severe coarctation of the aorta. His repairs were made at Duke University Medical Center on October 7, 2009. |
