Introduction For Nick Peterson and Taylor Fredin, summer 2015 will consist of 70 days and 1500 miles of canoeing, camping, and playing in the wilderness. The pair will paddle from Fort Smith, Northwest Territories, to Tuktoyaktuk on the Arctic Ocean. The route includes the Slave River, Great Slave Lake, and the Mackenzie River (also called Deh Cho). They plan to leave Minneapolis on June 2nd and return August 15th. Nick graduated from the University of Minnesota Duluth in 2015 with degrees in Mathematics and Economics. Nick’s adventures include a NOLS backpacking course in India, trips with UMD’s Recreational Sports Outdoor Program, working as a rock and ice climbing instructor in Duluth, MN and guiding summer and winter trips in the BWCAW. Taylor Fredin graduated in 2014 from Hamline University with a BA in Environmental Studies and a concentration in Biology. She was a student worker at CGEE all 4 years of college. After graduating, Taylor has guided winter and summer trips for Northern Tier and worked for the City of Duluth Parks and Recreation. She is an avid paddler and has paddled in the BWCAW every summer since age 4.
