| Introduction | My name is Denise, a.k.a., Kneeci Bittner (formerly Drsata). I have a BFA in Illustration from the Maryland Institute College of Art and an MS in Art Therapy from College of New Rochelle. As it is with most artists, we have to create, there is no option and this condition is no different for me. After being diagnosed with lung cancer at 20, I discovered this compulsion to create art is essentially what brought me through the worst experience of my young life. And as a result, I sought a degree in art therapy to encourage others to create, and muddle through difficult times in their lives with a sense of purpose and accomplishment through art making. I did just that for over a decade before I discovered I was once again diagnosed with more tumors, in both lungs. The choice was made for me, I would never be in any condition well enough to return to my career in art therapy. Art has once again, saved my life. The Family Tree as a theme is essentially exploring life through symbolism, myth and fairy tales. I would not be able to do this without the support of my husband, Larry, whom I wish to thank, he lovingly puts up with a sick wife who paints and draws, obsessively! |

Sponges and tongues are frequently misspelled. Is it because both are thirsty?
