About me

Gender Female
Occupation writer, tile maker
Location Finger Lakes, New York, United States
Introduction I have returned to the beautiful Finger Lakes area of upstate New York, after living in New England (also beautiful!) for the past twenty years. Life has handed me enormous changes in the past couple of years, including this move, including being widowed a little over a year ago. At last, life begins to move forward again. I am finding myself suddenly in love with learning once more, some days interested in everything, most days wanting to find a place to record it all. I like to make things. I am working on two books, concurrently. My life list right now contains a number of skills I would like to learn: book arts, stone cutting, blacksmithing, masonry. One day I would like to learn weaving, if I can ever figure out the math. Some days I think I would like to go back and take a class in Algebra, and finally figure out the math.
Interests art, architecture, writing, literature, politics, folklore, myth, cooking, horticulture, education, all things from the Arts & Crafts movement. Space, astronomy and physics, although I don't understand those things as well as I'd like to.
Favorite Movies Unfortunately, I don't get out to the movies as much as I'd like, and despite the advantage of having taken several film classes in college, I still think of movies as entertainment, and usually forget them soon after seeing them.
Favorite Music Anything I grew up listening to in the '70s & '80s...some days it's rock & roll, some days it's Sibelius and Segovia. I like to listen to what my kids are listening to, I like playing the piano and I think I'm going to like playing that mandolin I bought a few years ago, once I settle down to do it. I love listening to my daughter play her flute, and my son sing.
Favorite Books The Once And Future King, One Hundred Years Of Solitude, A Short History Of A Small Place, The Day On Fire. Any books on the Arts & Crafts movement. All of Chaucer. I'm going to re-read Watership Down soon and see if I like it as much as I remember liking it.
