| Introduction | I am starting this blog as part of my Essential Music Practice website. The site is dedicated to helping music students learn how to practice effectively by helping them improve music practice technique. My main instruments are piano, saxophone and clarinet but as a music teacher I have had to find my way around the guitar and drum kit on more than one occasion. I have recently started playing bass guitar in a band to give me a new musical challenge and I have already found it hard to take my own advice when practising on several occasions! I am using this blog to record my progress on the bass, and will also add any relevant information from lessons or my own piano, clarinet or sax practice. Learning a new instrument as an adult also throws up different challenges and as I work through these I will update the Essential Music Practice site with a new 'advice for adult learners' section and add a free update to my book Practice makes perfect...in fact, I will probably be using myself as a case study in future updates! |
