About me

IntroductionAlex Bliokh (Alexander Semionovich) is a retired engineer from USSR missile program biding his time to Alzcheimer's at one of upstate New York nursing homes near Corning. I invite you to visit my other blogs.
InterestsOnce upon a time there was a conference in my field, in which, to impress the session chair, a scottsman, I delivered a small lecture on the (enormous) role of Scotch immigrants in Russian history and culture. For many years I kept it to myself with no obvious use but now, in involuntary retirement, I decided to collect material from Wikipedias and such to flesh out this story. It talks mostly of XVIII-XIX century events and has no political connotations--for exposition of my political views, see my sister site oldpossumsbookreview.blogspot.com -- and is intended for pure fun of history buffs. Most of it material is borrowed from other sites, which I believe to be in a public domain. If there is a copyrighted material, please inform me so I can withdraw and/or replace it with its public domain equivalent. Note that all Russian-language material on the blog now can be quite passably translated by the Google translator. I checked it out and it works quite well.
