About me

Location Eugene, Oregon, United States
Introduction In this blog, I will be detailing my hunts for old houses, photos of which I have collected for many years, mostly in the form of photo postcards. These were made from around 1905 to 1920. At that time, it was not uncommon for homeowners in America to have photos taken of their homes, have a dozen or so postcards made. These would be sent all over to friends and family. I have made it my quest to collect as many of these images as posible and whenever possible try to find if the homes are still standing and photograph them as closely as I can to the how the original was taken. These types of photo postcards are rarely captioned identifying the locations can range from easy to impossible. Sometimes the date, homeowners, street address, city and state are written on the card, but more often there are just bits and pieces of information--sometimes just a name, sometimes just a post office cancellation, sometimes no clues at all besides the house itself. So far my in-person house hunting has been limited to the Pacific Coast, but someday I'd like to travel around the country pursuing what may be the world's nerdiest hobby.
