| Introduction | I grew up in a family that frequently discussed political issues. This was not a cultured event but was a wild vociferous occasion with the loudest winning the podium. Although young, I occasionally was able to ask a question or present an opinion. In high school I participated in sports and was a member of the school’s debating team. I was interested in science and majored in Physics at the University of Virginia. After graduation, I worked in Schenectady, NY, on design of naval nuclear power plants. While working, I earned master’s degrees, in Mechanical Engineering from Union College and in business administration from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY. During part of my career, I took a 3 year leave of absence and served in the Peace Corps teaching science in Swaziland, Africa. |
