About me

IntroductionWriter and researcher Anne Flaherty has dedicated more than 10 years of original document research to the complex series of events that led to the execution of 21 Irish Catholic men as “Molly Maguires” in Pennsylvania anthracite coal region during the 1870s. Using this new primary source material, she successfully challenges the accepted view of Pennsylvania’s controversial executions of Ancient Order of Hibernian (AOH) men as alleged “Molly Maguires.” In November 2010 Flaherty presented a segment of these findings at Fairfield University’s Irish College 2010. Anne Anderson, Ireland’s ambassador to the United Nations, served as a featured speaker at that event. Ambassador Anderson commented on the “moving and heroic” struggle of Pennsylvania’s AOH men. She corresponded with Flaherty subsequently of the need “to increase knowledge and understanding of all that is positive – and there is so much in which we can take pride – in the Irish story.”
