| Introduction | I grew up on a North Dakota farm. I attended Sheyenne River Academy, Walla Walla College, Andrews University Theological Seminary, and in 1999 earned a D.Min. from the San Francisco Theological Seminary. I've served churches in North Dakota, South Dakota, California, and Ohio. I work for the Ohio Conference of Seventh-day Adventist. I write for several magazines, including Signs of the Times, Ministry and The Adventist Review, and I edit a newsletter for pastors called Best Practices for Adventist Ministry. Some of my on-line writing is indexed here. I'm also an executive board member for Amistad International. My wife, Carmen, is an ordained minister and a hospice chaplain. We love gardening, travel and reading. |

| Favorite books | The Bible, of course—especially the gospels. To me, the gospels give the bulk of the story about God's love that we need to hear. I love preaching from them. I like Charles Dickens novels—English Victorian literature generally. I like short stories, especially W. Somerset Maugham, Guy du Maupassant and Saki. And though it isn't a book, for most of my life I've read The Atlantic Monthly cover to cover. I also read poetry; my favorites are Robert Frost and Louis MacNeice. |
